New wave managers have been spending extraordinary amounts of time--staff time, actually--farting around with these Powerpoint slides. They are used in place of the old chalk boards, overhead projector slides, and flip charts which aren't as pretty, but did get the job done for decades. Staff, who once went home at 5:00, now go home at 10:00; CEOs who once refereed their subordinates' squabbles or played golf, now spend entire days pestering their staff to make minor changes in the Powerpoint slides, as internal warfare rages amongst the subordinates. After all that, Dilbert's strip pretty clearly tells the story.
